Nitschke advocates wider euthanasia choice

Description:

Speaking to a capacity crowd of about 100 elderly people in Perth, Dr Philip Nitschke said that he believes voluntary euthanasia should also be a choice available to elderly people afraid of getting old and incapacitated, as well as to those who are terminally ill.

He talked about the case of West Australian academic Lisette Nigot, who chose death at 80 because she felt her mind and body would start to deteriorate after "80 years of good life." Her death became the subject of a documentary by Janine Hosking titled Mademoiselle and the Doctor.

Nitschke displayed his Exit Euthanasia Drug Test Kit during the "light-hearted" public forum in the Cambridge Library building.
