The news feed of the
World Federation of Right to Die Societies brings the
news that an English translation of the 2008 report of
the Dutch Review Committees is available. "According to
the Dutch Law, each euthanasia case has to be reported
to and reviewed by one of the (5) Regional Review
Committees."
In the Editor's opinion, every person interested in
end-of-life issues should read this 36 page report: The
committee members explain their procedures, policies and
problems, using real cases as illustrations. Each
regional review committee is composed of three members:
a lawyer, a physician and an ethicist. Each committee
has a secretary, who is also a lawyer, with an advisory
vote at committee meetings. The committees normally
publish all their findings (with identifying details
removed) on http://www.euthanasiecommissie.nl. The
2007 report is also available (see below.)
