On Thursday, November 12, Australian police
conducted two raids connected with Exit
International (EI): one on its office in Melbourne
and one on the home of an EI member in Sydney.
The Melbourne raid was described in Friday's
EuthaNEWSia (see below.) It was carried out by
Victorian police at the request of police from the
northern state of Queensland, and was aimed at
collecting documents and records concerning a man
named Frank Ward.
The Sydney raid was by New South Wales police on a
private residence of an elderly EI member. The
police warrant stated that the police were looking
for Nembutal and information on the drug's
acquisition. In the subsequent search a small
amount of this drug was allegedly found and
confiscated, along with copies of the Exit
newsletter and the Peaceful Pill Handbook. The
Queensland police have denied any connection to
this raid.
The Sydney raid is causing alarm at EI, as they
think it reasonable to assume that the raid
resulted from inside information about the EI
member's activities — information which may have
come from police infiltration of the Sydney
chapter. As a result, all EI members have been
sent an email advising them to ensure that any
Nembutal in their possession is stored "in a
secure and private location."
