Dr Philip Nitschke says that the Australian governments
plan to censor the Internet will limit information about
euthanasia.
Dr Nitschke says his group is on a leaked
Government black list of sites that will also be
blocked. "We'll find that we won't have the ability to
talk to our many Australian members who want access to
decent end of life information," he said. "So the
Government is going to restrict access to elderly
Australians for good end of life information and I find
that quite disgusting."

Australia: Net censorship move a smokescreen: expert

University of Sydney associate professor
Bjorn Landfeldt said the Government had still
failed to address serious issues such as whether
the internet filtering scheme would result in any
meaningful reduction in harmful content and
whether it was worth the effort, given the risk
that the scope of blocked content could widen
significantly…. Landfeldt detailed these issues
and many others in an official report presented to
the Government in February last year, which
concluded that schemes to block inappropriate
content such as child pornography were
fundamentally flawed. The report, which also
questioned whether Australian children were in
fact stumbling across child porn and other nasty
content while browsing, was kept secret for many
months and was only made public after its
existence was detailed in media reports.
Australia: Christian Lobby wants filter net cast wider
[itNews]

The Australian Christian Lobby has called
for a review of the mandatory internet filter
within three years to expand its scope beyond the
ACMA blacklist. Managing director Jim Wallace
issued a statement claiming the Enex report had
"proven the technological principle [of filtering]
can be extended to deal with other harmful X and
R-rated material on the internet. "This is now
clearly feasible and we need a review in three
years that might test this in practice,
particularly using third party providers of URLs,"
Wallace said.
